On September 25th, Mario Kart was released on Android and IOS devices across the world and since then, players have raced to be the best.

The original Mario Kart was first released on August 27, 1992 in Japan and North America. It sold over 8.76 million copies worldwide. It then went on to become the fourth best selling SNES game of all time.

“I like that Mario Kart is mobile now because I can just have my phone,” said freshman Leilani Willard. “I don’t need a special controller to play anymore it’s just more convenient.”

The mobile game can be played on multiple devices such as the Nintendo Switch, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo DS and more.

“On the DS the graphics aren’t as nice as they are on my phone,” said junior Isaiah Fierro. “It seems as though my driver is also slower on the DS.”

The mobile version features a variety of controls such as manual drift which is the original setting and smart steering gives you more control of your vehicle Another feature included is the auto item which automatically uses the items you have once you break a new item box and gyro handling which allows you to steer your kart by tilting your device, but this is only for devices with a sensor.

“I prefer manual drift just because it’s the easiest,” said senior Cady Tran. “ The other settings are a bit more difficult to understand.”

One feature that is not included with the mobile version but is included with other Nintendo devices is the multiplayer feature which allows you to race your friends. If you want to receive this feature on your phone, you have to pay $9.99 a month.

“I wish that you could race against your friends instead of just seeing their weekly rankings,” said freshman Jaiden Ruiz. “I don’t want to pay 10 dollars a month to race my friends.”

Although Mario Kart Tour features many of our old favorites such as Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Shy Guy and more, the creators have also brought some new faces to the gang. Some new characters include Baby Rosalina, Iggy, Metal Mario, Ludwig and many more. Each cup has a featured character and when you play with that character you can increase your points.

“My favorite character is Peach,” said Fierro. “Everyone sleeps on her but she’s honestly the fastest and I always come in first place when I use her.”
